I don’t know about you, but I love fall! I love the cooler weather (it’s coming I hope), the changing colors, the sports, and the gardening. Fall is arguably the best growing season in Central Texas and this makes it the perfect time to check out some of the Austin area farmer’s markets.

In Austin, we have so many options when it comes to fresh, and local food. Austin is a city known for the places to eat, drink, and hang out. Did you know that many of these farmers markets provide the food served at some of your favorite Austin restaurants?

When you shop at farmers’ markets, the food you are buying comes from within 150 miles of where you live. The fruits and vegetables are able to ripen naturally before being picked, which allows them to keep more of their vitality and nutrients. You are able to select products that are fresher and better tasting then what you will find in the supermarket. In addition to all of those benefits, your money stays right here in Central Texas to support hard working local farmers and their families.

Money may not be something you have to worry about, but if you count every dollar like many people do, it is important to note that farmers market accept SNAP and WIC. The Farmers Markets even offer a program that doubles your dollar if you participate in these programs making fresh fruit and vegetable more attainable for people who may not have them otherwise.

Below, are a several places you might want to check out next time you are in need of groceries. Click on the links to learn more about the vendors, schedules, and events available at each market.
